Halloween

I have always been a fan of Halloween. A night where children can dress up and be any one and everyone they want for that one night, no matter how old they are. Growing up in the era of the Munsters and the Adams family how could one not enjoy a little of the creepy side. In that era we were Gothic before Gothic was cool. So is there any wonder that we loved the whole ghoulish effect of the special holiday.

Years ago after we moved into a large older home in a small town is when the love of it all came rolling back in a major force. I open the door and a young girl screams. I stood there a wee baffled wondering exactly why she screamed. I then told my tow young son that from now on I will dress up if children are going to cream anyways. o we shall blame that young girl on all the year of turning the yard into our own Haunted House. Spider webs stretched form one end of the front yard to the other. Hands crawling out of the ground along the sidewalk. It took me 3 days to get it all done, but I sang to myself each year as I did so.

Children came from different counties to see the “Witch of the Village”. Some would sit on my lap, like Santa to get their picture taken. But each year more and more came. The smile on their face a they walked down that sidewalk to the house and giggling a little nervously. There at the end of the sidewalk was a big black rocking chair. As soon as the children were up to it the large stuffed witch, so they thought , would politely say hello. Never remembering the year before they would scream and let out another giggle. Each year they leave and wave and say “This was the best year ever!!”

Those are memories now, for children don’t go door to door anymore. They go to business’ and malls. Looking like the old lines at orphanages they go store to store asking for “More please sir”. Many times the stores are out of candy or give stickers. Now I ask you who wants to eat stickers?

I am grateful my children grew up in a time where memories could be made and made safely even when they walked among the creepy crawlies on that one special night.

Life seems to be never changing.

Life seems to be never changing. Always going so fast with life circling all around and yet nothing in life ever seems to change. Perhaps one day we all all waken and find was nothing but a dream. A never ending dream of how wish life would be and yet at the same time make it so it never is so.
Things we swear we want nothing to do with in our lives seems to be what we find ourselves consistently surrounded by. Do we purposely sabotage our own existence or it life’s funny way of telling you what an idiot you really are?

Once again I move into the mountains I love into the same situation I was in before but yet different. Sometimes there are questions we seek that are better left unknown.

David Letterman Apologizes

That’s right David Letterman apologized to the world for having affairs at work.

I am sure this is the all of our business somehow. So the man had relations with woman at work and this is new for only one reason. I am shocked women found him sexually attractive. No offense to the man but he is no Brad Pitts. Now if we found out Brad Pitts was having an affair we say…well hell what a lucky woman she was. David Letterman and we all go…Oh my how awful. Sure it was. Now you imagine being that woman who has to admit to the world that yes she actually had sex with him.

Yes I too am appalled. I do not even want to think about the man naked. I do not want to think about him in the bed with a woman…his wife or any other woman. SO yes he should apologize I say. Apologize to the world for even have to think about him having sex.

The fear of Swine Flu

So far this week I have talked to several people some with a cough and some with stomach upsets. As you know it is cold and flu season. So people are wiping both ends about now. The difference this year is everyone is terrified of the Swine Flu. They just know they are going to get it and die. Each one has asked me if I knew 20,000 people could die from the dreaded Swine flu.

Now people please understand there are about 4,000 people who die from the flu each year. It is not something to panic about but not something to ignore either.

People are acting like this is a plague like when the rats went around biting everyone. No pig is going to run up and bite you and you suddenly transform into a swine. Ok that would scare me thinking my ears would get all pointed and then have a curly tail. Been bad enough having curly hair all these years. Therefore I do not want or need a curly tail.

The whole thing reminds me of the movie The Blob. I saw that when I was a kid. This horrible blob thing started leaking all over the place and would blob right over people. They didn’t turn into a Blob but the Blob kinda ate them. So people would run out of movie theaters screaming as the Blob was coming after them.

Now if the Swine Flu turns into a Blob and starts leaking all over everything and eating people. Then leaves them with curly tails , now that would cause panic.

Course then it reminds me of the Twilight Zone. Do you remember the one where the doctors were fixing this woman’s face due to a car accident? She screamed and the doctors and nurses were comforting her and said but now you look normal and not so hideous. Then they removed their surgical masks and they all had pig faces. Camera zoomed in on hers and so did the patient. Course you got Rod Sterling coming on and talking about how beauty is seen differently in everyone’s eyes.

And you ask what does that have to do with the flu? Nothing, unless you compare how people are afraid of the unknown of the evil pig. When Pork Chops go Bad!

When Life Sets In

I decided in one of my more brilliant moments in life to have a yard sale this weekend. The weather was suppose to be lovely and a local fair in town. A dear friend wanted to help and gave me many of her items to sell in that brilliant moment of a yard sale I had. I worked all day the day before making candles and wax tarts. I spent half the night sticking prices on the stores jewelry and all the other items in that brilliant moment I had of the yard sale.

Morning came and I jumped out of bed trying to figure out how to put my face on and get dressed as I still put out the last of the items. Wrestling Persian rugs to see who could actually get out the door first. I am not exactly a morning person so the rugs had me at an advantage at this time. Usually they just lay there and let you walk all over them.

I always like yard sales due to the fact you get to talk to so many people you normally would never get to meet. There is one couple that waits for my twice a year brilliant moments of yard sales. That is at least what they said today as I sat in an old rocking chair looking around as to what they would keep returning for.

There is something about yard sales and hearing that constant jingle of one or two quarters hitting your pocket. I learn long ago that no matter what price you put on items they will try to talk you down even further. That is one of the parts I love about the whole yard sale production. You see them looking something over and then here they come. What they do no tell you is they know the item you marked down to $2.00 is actually worth more then twenty, but they want you to cut that sticker down in half. “Would you take $1.00 for this?” You can see that really wanting it look turn to the I really don’t care look.

“Sure” I say with a smile. My thought is it really wouldn’t be out in a yard sale if I wanted it. There is also the fact a dollar is still a dollar.

The then new owner of that yard sale item walks away rather proud of themselves. They haggled you down to a lower price. Their friends can now hear what a good bargain they got at the local yard sale. Times are hard for most right now so for fifty cents they might walk away with a bag of items and pride intact. Just to get that fifty cents I haggled them down with other items. They wore me down.

Then there are the neighbors who come over when you haven’t seen them since the last yard sale. Showing pics of great grandchildren and boasting of all their children. These are the ones who always buy a little something, just to help you out.

So that brilliant idea of having the yard sale for some reason, I realized what a community event it really is. Bargain hunting and seeing old friends you have known and some you never knew. It never hurts us to remember once in a while those wonderful small things in life such as a brilliant idea of a yard sale least we forget. Just as today coming outside as I had gone to get my glass of ice tea. I filled my glass up with ice and walked out the door. You know those moments where you just know you forgot something? I remembered as I went to drink the tea.
I had forgotten the tea. That kind of moment is why I forget how tiring a yard sale is and wonderful at the same time. Perhaps it could be age I am not sure.

2-year-old, 3 others dead in La. murder-suicide

By DOUG SIMPSON, Associated Press Writer Doug Simpson, Associated Press Writer – 2 hrs 15 mins ago

HOLDEN, La. – A man shot his estranged wife, son and 2-year-old grandson to death and seriously wounded his pregnant daughter-in-law at their rural Louisiana home, then killed himself as police tried to pull over his car 20 minutes later, authorities said.

The pregnant woman later gave birth, about three months early, her father said.

http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20090907/ap_on_re_us/us_louisiana_family_killed

Every time you start reading the news there is something about someone killing their family. What causes people to do such drastic actions. How could they hold such coldness in their hearts to murder their own children?

Domestic violence is such a ‘Don’t talk about it’ standard in our society. Women afraid to talk about what happens to them in their lives. Society says just leave if you don’t like it. How many try and are killed? How many are killed later on?

What gives any one person the right to hurt another human being? Do they even think before they react and harm someone they claim to love?

This man knew what he was doing. He took a gun and before a knife to his ex-wife’s home to scare her and hurt her. This time he went there with intentions of harming her. His son, his own son he shot. Then turned and shot his own grandchild. The innocents of innocent, he shot a baby. How could someone have that ‘evil’ in them to shoot a child?

Then there are those that disappear or live in the ‘hell’ of their own lives. Each morning waking wondering if they will be good enough not to be harmed. Scared at every turn and every sound. Knowing that any minute they could be punished for just not looking the right way.

Bless them all, those who have been freed and those who still live in harm’s way.

Wall street bets you’re gonna die.

New Exotic Investments Emerging on Wall Street

Article Tools Sponsored By
By JENNY ANDERSON
Published: September 5, 2009

After the mortgage business imploded last year, Wall Street investment banks began searching for another big idea to make money. They think they may have found one.

Michael Appleton for The New York Times

Rating the New Products Jan Buckler and Kathleen Tillwitz of DBRS, which is reviewing proposals for life- insurance securitizations.

The bankers plan to buy “life settlements,” life insurance policies that ill and elderly people sell for cash — $400,000 for a $1 million policy, say, depending on the life expectancy of the insured person. Then they plan to “securitize” these policies, in Wall Street jargon, by packaging hundreds or thousands together into bonds. They will then resell those bonds to investors, like big pension funds, who will receive the payouts when people with the insurance die.

The earlier the policyholder dies, the bigger the return — though if people live longer than expected, investors could get poor returns or even lose money.

Anybody else as disgusted as I am?

So here wall street is betting people with life insurance policies are going to die early.

Buying life insurance is actually a gamble for you and the life insurance company. Your betting your going to die and they are betting your not. You keep paying in betting your not. At the end it is usually the same, you die and someone pays out money. The money you paid in was used for those companies to invest to make a profit while you were living.

So now wall street is going to add another notch to their bed posts of who they sleep with. They are taking a gamble you are going to die early. Isn’t that reassuring after wall street put the market in the red with our country? They killed a lot of people’s jobs and now are hoping you get killed or become sick before your time.

Ummm I ain’t feeling the love here wall street!

How To Write Blog

Well I have a title to the first post on my blog, How to write a blog.  Now that said, I certainly hope this does not go into Google Search for people to try to figure the ‘how to‘.     They may read this and have to go to some type of deprogramming.

So I sit and stare at this blank space and wonder what does one write about?  My daughter in law the quiet little Beauty Brat that the internet has changed from a shy young lady into a beautiful confident woman says “Anything”.   My youngest son says he has no idea he just stares at the screen.  He must get that from my side of the family being non-opinionated.  The oldest I am not asking due to I read his Myspace and his ‘Interest’ sent me into shock for several days.  Mothers should just not read some things their children do.   We like to think of them as the sweet innocent little children who climbed into our laps and hugged us as tight as they could.  Some how some way time slipped in and took them into adulthood.  Then just as you get use to the idea they can not sit in your lap as your knees somehow seem to go out about the same time, you discover they threw you away for some younger women.   That is when you read Myspace and go into shock.   Bright side is these strange women then give you this great presents, called ‘Grandbabies’.  You get to be the wonderful spoiler of children.   Next time I believe I will start out with grandchildren first.  It seems so much easier.

These great presents however keep growing as well.  You realize that clock on the wall is slowing down.  That is the problem with those wind up clocks.  Every 30 days you have to rewind them.   My youngest learned to count that way.  We didn’t wind him up but he would stand on the chair and watch the clock them count the number of times the bell would chime.  For whom does the bell toll…it tolls for thee and me.  Well you have to admit that sounded rather deep.  This blog thing could work out for me and my deepness towards all things in life.   I wonder if my children are going to think this was as good an idea as they originally thought?
