The Bear Facts about Cherokee NC Zoos

Everyone loves to see the bears in the wild.  Riding along and one is spotted

and people will stop their cars for miles just to catch a glimpse.

Then there are the wild life preserves or natural habitat zoos.

Bears which are usually saved as orphaned cubs

and protected from the world we now live in.

Then there are the zoos which is no more then a jail or prison for these magnificent creatures.

Bear from Cherokee Zoo

They are kept on concrete to beg for food.

Tourist spend 25 cents to throw dog food to watch the bears eat.

Santa's land

They are left in the hot sun... no shade...

Cherokee bear zoo

No veterinarians on site...

After hours large rocks are tossed at them

for some person's amusement.

rocks thrown at bears.

What happens to cute cubs when they are no longer cute?

They are sold or found along side roads destroyed.

Who owns these bears?

These people run business' in Cherokee, NC.  They are not Cherokee...they only have business there.  Now one thing interesting is The Chief there  Michele Hicks will not stand up for these bears being it is on Cherokee land.  If your asking yourself why the answer is his perhaps an in law owns one of these so called prisons that are abusing the bears.

Why are the Cherokee allowing this?  They are not... but they do not pass the laws.  The Chief and Council do so.  The laws in these so called zoos are suppose to be followed as according to North Carolina state laws.  These animals are there for profit.... not to protect them.   They are to beg for food, be tortured and abused.

Is there exaggeration to this?  See for yourself these are pictures from the 3 zoos there. Show me where they are respected as they should be?

What can you do?  At the bottom is a letter you can download or copy and put in WORD and send to North Carolina's governor.  Asking that these animals condition be changed and NOW!   There are reports which you see the links for that show time and time again these zoos were written up and yet still allowed to display the bears in their cells.

One tire hanging from a tree trunk is not a natural habitat.  These bears are not taken care of as the pictures show from the hair loss.  It is not shedding ... it is neglect.

Look at the pictures and you will see the resemblance of an animal pound.  Any county facility that is about to destroy animals.  These are being destroyed slowly over time and for money.  Luring tourist in to see the respected bears of Cherokee.  These are NOT respected !!  They are NOT owned by Cherokee.

The time is now to stop this... Please join in a fight that is now International to save these bears and any others from this future.   It is not a organization but well organized and supported by many larger animal rights groups.  The only thing that is asked of you is to look at the pictures and look in your heart and help us fight for these bears.

Prison or Zoo?

Cheif Shanooke

Rusty Metal broken edges, Holes in Concrete Reported by USDA and still not fixed

More hair loss and no vet attending these animals.

Dear Governor Perdue,

We are writing these letters in regard to the bears in Cherokee being mistreated and neglected. We are asking you as the governor of North Carolina to look into this matter. These so called zoos need to be shut down. Pictures speak a thousand words and the pictures of the bears in their un-natural habitats in Cherokee only leave us as a public with words of sadness.

The bears are in danger due to neglect and abuse. The hair is missing on some bears in several areas showing the neglect. They are left without shade and protection from the weather. The doors and metal in some areas is left rusted and broken with the bears endanger of being harmed.

These zoos have been inspected and written up. Yet they still are allowed to operate. You as governor of North Carolina can step in and protect these magnificent creatures. We the public are asking you to do just that, to stop the neglect and abuse.

The letters are being sent all over this country and other countries as well. The public is outraged at the abuse that is allowed. They will be faxed, mailed and emailed until the bears are safe. The world is now watching to see what North Carolina does to protect those who cannot protect themselves.

Thank you for your time and concern of the bear in Cherokee.

Sincerely,
